Right now autumn is in the air. When the leaves start to fall and the winds become crisp. An internal alarm begins to ring, one that says, winter is almost upon us. Why all this talk about autumn? Well it just so happens that I am not the only one who thinks that autumn should be a constant season. The debut EP by Dylan Sevey and the Gentlemen’s first track “Yearlong Autumn” will get you in the mood for whatever the times may bring. This Self Titled CD was released earlier this year through Bandcamp, and there is a physical copy as well. Which you can buy from them at their shows (or maybe if you ask nicely through e-mail I am sure they will send you a copy). The three songs on this record is what makes these guys Rhode Island’s best kept secret.
This EP sends a few clear messages to this writer. It makes us yearn, makes us miss, and gives us hope for a new beginning. All of these messages are told through Dylan’s country, folk-rock musical styling. When I first heard this record I could not believe what I heard, every track on it was a banger! The lead guitars coupled with the keys compliment the intense songwriting that is going on in the forefront.
These three songs will leave you in a sense of amazement. “Yearlong Autumn” starts things off, and you don’t quite know where it is going to go, but once the keys kick in, Dylan will have you tapping your toes, and wishing for a “Yearlong Autumn” as well. I wish I heard “Dreams That I Dream About You” when I broke up with my ex-fiancĂ©. I am a personal fan of sad lyrics strutted in front of a punchy upbeat tune. Even though this song is the simplest of the three, it puts your exact feelings about a breakup into a Gram Parsons-esq song. The last song on this record, “I Can’t Feel This Way Forever” will have you bopping up and down right from the get go. This song is a perfect ending leaving us wishing they had recorded more.
I got a chance to catch up with Dylan Sevey himself. That interview will be available tomorrow (Saturday Sept 22nd) right here at Boston Bloghead. Until then, you can check out and purchase this EP and other songs at dylansevey.bandcamp.com
